Dinner without a refrigerator

What can I make for dinner with ingredients that require very little space in the refrigerator? So far I've tried tuna helper, packaged Knorr alfredo noodles with canned chicken, chili and microwave Barilla Pasta.

  • Fresh eggs, if you buy the 6 pack instead of the 12 can be left out without problems for a few days. Veggies will also be okay.
I purchased a can of TVP beef flavored, at WalMart and often use it as ground beef and with it, I make Chili, Spanish Rice, Taco Salad, etc

Try this site for ideas as backpackers don't use refrigerators CLICKY
  • How about carrying an ice chest with dry ice and keep the good stuff for meals in there.

The dry ice will last for several days; you won't have to skimp on fresh ingredients for meals. You'll be able to move stuff from the ice chest into the frig as you use up the items in the frig.
  • Black bean or retried bean tacos

Vegetarian pad Thai from a box mix

New England clam chowder with canned milk and clam juice

    Pasta with clam sauce

  • Being as how I am also a backpacker I always bring some MRE's and freeze dried meals along on my RV travels. They last a long time. The MRE's can be eaten hot or cold and the freeze dried only require boiling water.
  • I like the Zartarains box rice meals, dirty rice and jambalaya are my favorites.

Under Jim's baked potato suggestion, stuffed baked potatoes makes a great meal. Put veggies or canned meat on top and cover with a jar of gravy.

Definitely the SPAM works well and they now make lower sodium and fat versions. Cubed; slabs; it's all good.

Salmon, chicken and tuna are now available in vacuum packs instead of cans which saves cupboard space. Canned Armour chili is available without soy.

Dont forget the military standby of Chipped Beef on Toast, known by soldiers as SOS (sh*t on a shingle). You use dried beef out of a jar, shredded. Evaporated canned milk and flour. Tasty:w!
  • Bacon can be purchased in cans. Bacon and tomato sandwiches make a lovely meal.

Canned ham served cold or hot

Rice is a great addition to many meals

Bisquick and powdered milk works well for pancakes or waffles.
