Do I Really Need That???

Richardwise, you sound like my husband on the pizza.

My husband asked me what I want for Christmas and I told him a 6" Wusthof chef's knife. I have a 10" chef's knife that I use, but it's really too big for me. I've used el cheapos all my life, except for a really good chef's knife I brought back from Japan nearly 50 years ago and someone stole it. I want Wusthofs! And I agree with DianneOK, no one else will be allowed to touch them.

knives...my Wustoff set fulltimed with us for 9 years....only my hubby and I are allowed to use them !!! My mother was highly offended when I told her she was not allowed to use them...she is the "destroyer of knives" queen !!!!!

Dare I say that China would go bankrupt if we all learned to use knives like a chef? I've always heard from professionals that the only tools they need are a good set of knives and a heat source to create succulence on a plate.

We live near a Goodwill "As Is' store. They sell the things that do not sell in their usual stores from 59 cents to several dollars. All of the things that I would not buy new are almost given away and I just have to try out too many of them. A large George Forman with removable grill was [email protected]. My husband loves it and got rid of our old one. I have several other things that I like and others that have gone in a box to my grand daughter who is just setting up housekeeping.
I cannot eat anything with gluten in so I have to make my own doughnuts and have a donut maker to make them in. I used to make my own fresh when I could have gluten, now they would fall apart.
As far as buying anything new, nothing except a toaster and electric frying pan.
And I always make my own bread but do not use a bread machine. If that is what it is called. What I can buy tastes terrible and costs an arm and a leg.

My friend Joe (for lack of a better name :)) can and does prepare gourmet meals at his house, at my house, in the RV, at moose camp, at sheep camp, and on the banks of the Copper.

Joe's cooking gear? A roll of Wusthof knives; 12 in all (IIRC). He brings fewer than that on hunting/fishing trips, but even at his house, he doesn't use kitchen gadgets....although I'm quite envious of his kitchen full of Sub-Zero appliances.

Joe's profession? Well, retired now, but previously Chef de Cuisine at rated restaurants in San Francisco, Seattle, and in Los Anchorage.

If you have a Kitchen Aid stand mixer, the "funny hooked thing" is a dough hook for when you have several free hours to make homemade bread. If you lose it, I'll be happy to send you mine. Never been used. :)

Going thru our kitchen stuff to pare it down to what will fit in the RV. Do we really need that rice maker? How about the mango slicer? And what is that funny hooked thing? I 'm sure we knew what it was for when we bought it.
