Yup, cows tongue also was sold in the deli in cold cut form too. It was called tongue sausage. Brought up on it too when I was a kid! I actually liked it specially the jellied part made for great sandwiches .:C
Don't see the cold cut form in deli's anymore.
A couple of years ago I saw the whole fresh tongue for sale in a specialty grocery store. So I bought it!
You make a fresh tongue the same way you would make corned beef. How ever you make corned beef in your family just substitute the tongue. It does tasted very good cooked this way. P.S. you do have to take the skin off of it before you eat it, if that is the way it was sold.
