Easy dutch oven recipie site

While trolling pintrest I came across a site with a bunch of recipes for dutch ovens. It is geared toward easy, quick and camping friendly one pot meals,no fuss-no muss. Simple ingredients, simple directions and a wide variety of dishes. We made the smoked sausage gumbo on the stovetop tonight for dinner and it was tasty. Here is the web-site http://www.everydaydutchoven.com/. Sorry I don't know how to make a clickable link.

Nice ideas, but using ingredients from scratch is much healthier than using canned ingredients with their extra chemicals.

Been a perimeter shopper for a long time and like you am leery of the additives in some prepped and semi prepped foods. Which has taken me into the world of how to sub say canned cream of whatever soup. It's all about making a roux or veloute and seasoning as needed.

Here's a basic how to link:

You can freeze most base sauces in ice cube trays for portion control; stuff of beauty no matter where home is.

Nevah found a true substitute for Lipton's dry onion soup mix though;).

I think I may try the shrimp paella on our next camping trip.

A few years back I made a version of this recipe using fideos or broken vermicelli instead of rice. I added saffron since I had it on hand and opted for smoked paprika since once discovered it's nevah left my spice cabinet or more truthfully, my fridge.

As I frequently camp near the seashore I added 1 cut up lobster (steamed at the market for free and cut into portions by self; love when stores make my life easier), more mussels and small clams; think I balked at the cost of scallops at the time so dinna use. Added a small bag of frozen green peas towards the end as well as some roasted bell pepper slices.

Didn't use a DO since I still don't have one (sigh) but a CI wok did a nice job cooking over the fire pit. You can make a stable base/ring of foil if you don't have one.

This is an excellent base recipe that's ripe for adding your own riff to:c
  • If you're ever near a Boy Scout shop, stop in and pick up a copy of their Dutch Oven Recipe booklet. Lots of great ideas and most are made from scratch.
  • Thank you for the clicky Little Kopit. I agree with fresh is better and we usually modify recipes to include them. We actually subbed fresh zucchini for the frozen okra and added fresh celery.
