Good Vegan Recipe Source

I am researching vegan and gluten free recipes sources. Will be having a guest here for a week that eats no meat, fish, dairy, or gluten.

I'm finding it a little challenging as I eat and cook all of the above.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Those folks I know with dietary restrictions manage such situations by selecting from those foods offered and politely declining those they can't/won't eat.

..... snip..... I will admit that Vegan's are the most difficult to feed as they find animal products in just about anything, and their reasoning is that it's cruel the way our feed animals are treated in slaughter houses...snip...

    Hoo boy- Food as politics????

Here's hoping that the O.P.'s upcoming guest isn't one of those types...about as welcome in most circles as folks who evangelize about politics and/or religion!

But surely eating a few days meat/dairy free wouldn't hurt anyone and those who are adventurous might find it fun to try a meat free day. Vegetarians are a little easier as they will eat eggs and cheese, mayo etc.
(If you would like to know more about eating vegan, there is a very good Movie on Netflix called Forks Over Knives, which I highly recommend and if your overweight and ill, you might want to watch Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead.)Believe me, eating fresh food, whole foods and eliminating chemicals certainly can't hurt.

  • Google "vegan recipes " or "vegan lasagna" whatever it is you want to try.
I disagree that it is a limited menu. Yes, it takes more creativity and work to cook healthy vegetarian food instead of cooking some meat and vegetables and a starch.
But there are great tasting recipes out there. Learn to cook tofu. Throw it on stir fry.
  • For gluten free your basic home prepared meat, potatoes, vegetables, salads, fruits. Remove the meat and you should be good. Just remember - no sauces, breading, frying usually. I have a friend who has celiac disease and is gluten free. Gluten is in more products that you can even begin to imagine. And gluten is not just wheat. Try doing google searches for recipes. Also - you can search for gluten free menus at restaurants as many do have gluten free items on their menu. You could pick out things that do not include meat and then search for the recipe.
  • Thank you Roy&Lynne,

So nice to know your go to site is one I visited and have already printed some of her recipes.

Another site I visited is Gluten-Free Goddess and have printed some recipes from there also.

Your info is just what I was looking for, someone who has experience with recipes from vegan, gluten free, sites.

So glad to hear you are feeling so much better now.
  • Ideas to feed your friend are recipes that you and the family will also enjoy. Chili is always a good stand by and the Beefless Stew tastes much like what your use to, Fatfree vegan has a good tasting lasagna recipe. If your in a hurry for time, Black Bean Soup, 2 cans of black beans, one can of veggie broth, half jar of salsa, and a teaspoon of cumin hits the spot, garnish with non-dairy sour cream and green onions.
  • LOL, my favorite subject. I turned vegan about 3 years ago at the urging of my DD and her husband. I lost weight, my arthritis is much better and I could go on and on about how good I feel and I'm off all meds. (I'm 72 and feel great)
My go to site is The FatFree Vegan I love her Dirty Little Secret Soup, her Beefless Stew, Pumpkin Bread and the list goes on and on.
One Green Planet is another place that I go.

    Plant Based Slow Motion Miracle
If your on facebook, Veganonymous and Vegan Food Enthusiast
  • With a diet so restrictive, have them bring recipes, food, etc. They must be aware of how challenging it is to prepare food.
