We did use a French Press while out on the road - but the cleanup was hard - used too much water. We got a manual k-cup press similar to the OP's last year and we love it!
My feeling about the FP, too much, waaaaaay too much clean up. By the way I do use the Malita wrap around filters, still think the Presto single k cup maker is a neat coffee maker. $0.33 cents a cup is not that expensive.
