Hot Dogs....again

Well, were having hot dogs again tonight. Is there anything to do, to improve a hot dog? I know different toppings and sides, but can you do anything to the dog itself? It's going on the grill in a few hours so is there something I can soak or marinade them with? Just want to change it up. Ideas.....

It's difficult to improve a perfect food. :)
  • When I was a kid, my dad use to split hot dogs down the middle and fry them. I havent' done that in several years. Hum... may just do that for supper tonight, or a great snack about 7:30 tonight! Thanks Old-Biscuit for the memory!

You know, ... you can fry Bologna the same way too. I haven't done that in years too. If frying Bologna, make small cuts in it so it won't curl up so bad.

You could throw a "twist" on things and do a Brat, or a Sausage dog. We get ONLY all BEEF hot dogs. There is a difference with the cut-rate brand (not cut rate in price ...), cut rate in ingredients. All beef is still the best.

Still, in my opinion, nothing beats the old traditional way, like this:

We do what OLD BISCUIT says alot... They good for eating with buns etc and also very good with pork-n-beans and salad on a plate...

Haven't tried them with bacon slices yet - That sounds good too after grilling them to being burnt good first...

I know they are good - one time I had two neighbor dogs coming over checking them out haha... I made them a batch too...

  • Split the grilled hot dog lengthwise, fill with pepper jack cheese and wrap in a flour tortilla. Bake in a toaster oven until the cheese melts. Serve with salsa or sour cream mixed with some salsa.
  • Split it almost in half....roast on grill inside and out

Then close back up and place in bun with toppings of your choice

When you bite into dog you get grill flavor in & out

Dogs don't marinade well.....they fail to soak up much if any flavor from marinade.
  • Sweet & Sour Franks

1- 8 oz can of tomato paste
    5 tbsp cider vinegar
    1/3 cup brown sugar
    1 tsp chili powder
    1 small onion sliced thin
    1 clove garlic diced
1 pound hot dogs cut into chunks

Mix all ingredients except dogs in a large skillet and simmer 2-3 minutes stirring often. Add dogs and simmer 10 minutes or until onions are soft.
  • Roast a Anaheim chile, peel the skin off, set aside. Take the dog and wrap it in bacon and throw it on the grill. Cook until bacon is done then stuff the chile with it. Dip in batter and deep fry.

Or just wrap the dog in bacon and roast over open fire.
