- k_jensen6Explorer III put mine in a plastic colander, fits perfectly in the bathroom sink whe traveling. Otherwise usually keep them in the bottom cupboard towards the back of the motorhome. Out of the sunlight and usually cooler there as well.
- 2hamsExplorerWe also like to find roadside stands. I usually carry a half bushel hand basket, which holds stuff pretty well and is handy to have if you find a place to pick your own.
- BuckBarkerExplorerBed Bath and Beyond sell those balls with crystals in them that absorb the gasses that vegetables give off. THEY WORK AND WILL PAY FOR THEMSELVES IN A MONTH.
- magnusfideExplorer IIWe buy as we go and put it in the fridge is we have extras. The cooler with ice is an option if you have no fridge.
- Francesca_KnowlExplorerCool, moist, and most of all BREATHING is what gets veggies through hot weather in my trailer.
I don't put them in the fridge at all....and never leave them in plastic bags. Greens of all kinds are wrapped in a damp cloth or paper towel, and loose things like tomatoes/mushroom are put in damp paper bags. Then I put the bundles loosely in a perforated box with a damp towel on top. Using this method I've kept lettuce heads in good condition through the fours days it takes us to consume one, and in temps over 85. (We don't have a/c, by the way)
I keep the box where air circulation is good, and if camped in one spot for a few days, outside in the shade/breeze. I have a little zip-up screened shelter like this one that protects stuff from bugs.
I learned this trick from a nice lady in a Korean grocery who also taught me how to properly choose green onions from the stack I was timidly helping myself to... - Super_DaveExplorerAnyone had luck with those green bags?
- magentawaveExplorerAnd thats what I'll do when I know I'll be be close to shops but sometimes I'll be away from it all while I meander through Mexico, Central America and South America.

Why store much of anything:h - SWMOExplorerOne option that will help is to store them in a small cooler with a cold pack. The darkness and cool temps will extend their life a little.

Why store much of anything:h - DutchmenSportExplorerWe purchase fruits and vegetables as we go along. We have at most a 2 day supply and then hit the grocery store. The only vegetable we keep plenty of are potatoes. And they lay in one of the cabinets and usually get consumed pretty quick too. Always a 5 pound bag, and never take anything in excess. Unless you're camping a zillion miles and a 60 hour drive to the closes grocery store, purchase as you go, and purchase canned, or fresh and don't stockpile.
Things like carrots, lettuce, cucumbers, onions keep well in the refrigerator, and are put in one of the containers in the bottom. They don't get bumped around there and will keep just as long as in your home. Things like bananas, oranges, grapes ... just pad them well when traveling and they'll be fine.
The secret is NOT to stockpile. In today's world, that really not necessary, unless you are REALLY off the grid for a year or something like that.
