How we make RV pizza

So, for those of you that know us this will be no surprise to you. Pizza Friday is about as holy of a tradition as you can get in our household and will not be missed for anything, including camping. It's been difficult to adhere to when traveling, but we've resorted to going out for pizza, getting take-out, and suffering through pre-made crusts in the RV. Well, we recently had a friend introduce us to Wewalka dough and thought it would be perfect for RV camping trips...and we were right! This has been a huge step up for us in the way of pizza while camping and have also started using this at home instead of handmade dough.

Our new pizza routine is to make sauce before we leave the house and pack pizza dough and cheese. Don't forget a pizza stone (don't leave it in the oven when traveling), peel, and pizza cutter! Checkout the below video to see how we do it.

We've only found this at Giant locally, but click here for their store locator.

  • We put the crust right on the grill flip after a few minutes then everyone does their own toppings

    Crust!!

    We do the same,,sorta!!
When we lived in Philly I remember that the best pizza ever was a "White Clam Pizza"
    So I make my own,
    Bobali crust
    Fresh block of Parmesan cheese
    Garlic
    salt and pepper
    can of clams (drained)
    garlic Alfredo sauce
    Italian spices

I make the pie, brush on some virgin olive oil, sprinkle some spices and what ever and throw it in the oven until the edges just start to lightly brown
pull it out and sprinkle the cheese on some garlic sprinkle and return to the oven just until the cheese starts to melt
take it back out,, swirl the Alfredo sauce on and spread a can of clams on top!
return and cook until the edges are a nice golden brown!!
Not an exact science, but for a time reference, this is usually a three beer job!!

EDIT: Opps,, wife pointed out I forgot about the other cheeses,,I use cheddar (mild) and light Mozzarella or Monterrey Jack depending on what I brought!!

Mmmmmmm...I've never tried white clam pizza. It's now on my list of pizzas to make:)

Can you post an ingredients list for your sauce? I couldn't tell what some of the ingredients were because the label wasn't turned toward the camera or it just went by so fast. Also, I don't think you said how much of each spice you used.

Our big problem with pizza in the gas oven of our 5th is the crust taking forever to get done. Actually, it never really gets done before the cheese starts to burn. We use a metal pizza pan placed in the middle of the oven. Any tricks for overcoming this problem?

The ingredients we use for the sauce are below. We don't measure anything and my wife just does it by smell and taste...she's Italian after all;)

Little bit of olive oil in the pot
    Tomato Sauce
    Tomato Paste
    Garlic powder
    Oregano
    Salt
    Pepper
    A little crushed red pepper
    Parmesan Cheese

As for cooking, we use a pizza stone and it makes all the difference. In a pinch we've put aluminum foil down and it's helped, but nothing beats a pizza cooked on a pizza stone.
  • we use appian way pizza mix add our toppings-cheese perforated pizza pan on coleman grill to go-great pizza

  • Nice video. Our trailer lacks an oven so we make pizza outside on a Cobb Grill. We like our "camping pizza" so much that we often make it at home.
