Almost every Greek diner is gone from my neighborhood (West Side) and with it the daily special of pastitsio, LOL. Mostly they were victims of the ever increasing commercial rents suffered by shoemakers, Woolworth type stores and their replacements, the Dollar stores.
Yesterday, we walked from 72nd Street + B'way to the mid 90's stopping at every local food emporium needed. Noted that another diner had closed as well as a sidewalk cafe called "Mykeonos". Never fear though you can still get a "Greek fix" by wandering out to Astoria, Queens, via the N train and getting off at Ditmas Blvd. I'm partial to Taverna K but just follow your nose in that nabe and all will be good.
