camping fingerlakes region

Watkins Glen State Park. This is my favorite and its a nice town.

Junius Ponds Cabins and Camping is a nice CG and has all your must haves.....I believe $30/$32 a nite, right off the Thruway between exits 41 and 42.....Watkins is also very nice and has all your must haves but for twice the money....good luck on your first trip and enjoy the Fingerlakes Region.

Letchworth State park huge swimming pool and not to far from Darien Lake.

Watkins looks spectacular....
any suggestions on which loop or particular sites that are better or worse? also is there anyyhing else i should know prior to booking?

Make sure to call and check if the pool is open. A lot of state parks pools have not opened yet.

Watkins Glen, Hills Creek (smaller).

A VERY interesting activity is a tour of the Bully Hill Winery ("Love My Goat" fame). They take you through everything from the vineyard to the equipment used, etc.

A wine tasting at the end if you like and souvenir shop.

We had kids and they really enjoyed it, too.

Not to mention it is on top of the mountain, overlooking the fingerlakes. The view alone is worth the trip.

We go to Sampson State Park every year. Huge sites and tons of trees, great kids outdoor play equipment added a couple of years ago, harbor to walk to and see the nice private boats, small store with ice-cream and pizza etc., amazing view and lots to do within a short drive. They have electric but no water/sewer hookups (there is a dump station and water station) and I think its $17 or $19 per night. We have reservations there for July!

Vote #2 for Letchworth, can't beat the hiking or scenery.

Sampson is one of our favorite parks too! Very nicely kept.
