X2....and I carry strike anywheres and fire ribbon as part of the survival pack in the pa12 which gets rougher and more frequent jostling than most surface vehicles

I have carried a big box of strike anywhere matches in my RVs since the dawn of time. Never lost one to unwanted spark ignition yet. They still need a measurable amount of pressure and ignition to ignite.

After several years using a long neck butane lighter I'm giving it up this season for low tech, no callus forming (hate those childproof locks!)non safety matches. Buying them from REI or Cabela's in a metal case, LOL.

Here's the truth in safety matches.

I always thought the reason you wore a big flat belt buckle was to strike matches on?

My 12 year old grandson carries safety matches, waterproof matches, magnesium stick, flint and steel and wants a butane lighter. On a multiple day backpacking trip with all the tossing and jostling and bumping together those fire starters get and no spontaneous ignition. Every member of the Journey of Discovery carried a Possibles Bag with flint and steel and no accidents.

I guess I'm just too worried about other things like whats for lunch, does the store at our next campground still carry the fabulous ice cream they did the last time we were there.

Oh yeah, one last thing, lighting an old sulphur match required a lot of heat, therefore, the denim pants of old were used because they didn't break the heads off, boots did.

I just bought one of these! Looks like a match only reusable!

Back in the day ...

I used to strike them by holding them in my fist and scratching the heads with a thumbnail.

It worked great until the head on one match broke and left burning sulfur under my thumbnail. OUCH!
