Kitchen Matches

We carry our strike anywhere matches in a small jam jar. The top seals tight to keep them dry and if (very very unlikely) they strike, there isn't enough air in the jar to do anything.

"Strike anywhere" matches are hard to find, even in the stores that carry them.

They are usually on the top shelf, out of reach of children.

"Strike anywhere" matches are not "safety matches".

It is very difficut to find "strike anywhere" matches anymore. They may be illegal in some states.

That's why they call them safety matches.

I thought all matches needed to be struck on a special surface before they would ignite. I could be wrong; my wife says I am all the time.

Any danger? Yes. Probable, happen in your lifetime? No.

I keep my box of kitchen matches in a ziplock baggie for moisture reasons but I imagine if I was paranoid about them self striking, the ziplock would eliminate the oxygen necessary to ignite.
