Kitchen Matches

Any problems/danger with carrying a box of kitchen matches in the rv?
Like driving over bumps and the matches self striking/igniting?
Thanks!
Pat

  • We carry our strike anywhere matches in a small jam jar. The top seals tight to keep them dry and if (very very unlikely) they strike, there isn't enough air in the jar to do anything.

  • "Strike anywhere" matches are hard to find, even in the stores that carry them.

They are usually on the top shelf, out of reach of children.
  • "Strike anywhere" matches are not "safety matches".

It is very difficut to find "strike anywhere" matches anymore. They may be illegal in some states.

  • I thought all matches needed to be struck on a special surface before they would ignite. I could be wrong; my wife says I am all the time.
  • Any danger? Yes. Probable, happen in your lifetime? No.
  • I keep my box of kitchen matches in a ziplock baggie for moisture reasons but I imagine if I was paranoid about them self striking, the ziplock would eliminate the oxygen necessary to ignite.
