My only thought is about frying a turkey. If you've never done it you may find like most people that it is too much of a mess and an expense. You either have a lot of oil to clean and store, or you're dumping a lot of money. I tried it for awhile when I had enough people to feed that it was worthwhile, but I quickly decided that while it was very good it wasn't worth the trouble.
I bought a Big Easy and haven't looked back. It isn't much bigger that the turkey pot, produces a bird that is very comparable to one deep fried and other than a catch pan and basket to wipe or clean it is easy.While I haven't tried frying chicken in it, someone on here, sorry I can't remember their names, did and it looked like a success.
Aside from that the other use you plan should work out great.
