So, I feel a question is in order.
Are some of you saying that any brand cast iron skillet is made differently for different retailers, with the name brand name on it?
That's what I'm reading, with the comments about "Wally World" skillet. I'm really curious, because I've not seen this with the brand name staying the same. I'm seen some spirits in Costco made by someone, but the Costco brand name on it, just to name one example.
I am new to this cast iron stuff, but I believe from what I have read on dutch oven forums that the Lodge ware you can get today isn't as good as what you could get in the past... like anything else, I think the quality has declined to keep prices low. But I don't have any old Lodge pieces to compare it to either. But I know from looking at vintage pieces others have that different manufacturers (Griswold and Wagner) had a smoother cast iron to begin with.
Or maybe Lodge brand was always rougher than other brands. But I believe that any Lodge piece would be the same regardless of if you bought it was Wally World or at Gander Mountain, etc.
