I don't know if it matters much but I've heard that bacon grease isn't good for seasoning cast iron because of the salt used for curing the bacon. I render the fat off chicken skins I fry crispy for the dogs,( and me) and use that for our frying and coating the skillets.......... There sure are a lot of cast iron fans here..
