No, I don't think it is an ad, although it could be a very cleverly designed one.
As for the 1800 watt rating, the 1800 watt is probably the maximum limit the unit will draw, not the actual amount. Incidentally, a standard household outlet is wired for 15 amps. Most household appliances are designed not to draw over 15 amps, or the appliance would have to have a dedicated outlet with a special plug. Think of microwave ovens, space heaters and hair dryers. They are limited to 15 amps, or 1800 watts, each. (Amps times voltage equals wattage.)
