I take my receipt straight from the "Joy of Cooking" and for a change of pace(for me) make no substitutions:
Canned Baked Beans w/ Bacon or Franks
6 servings
Preheat oven to 350
Add to 2-1/2 cups canned beans:21oz can
1/4 cup of catsup
2 TBs molasses
2 TBs brown sugar
2 TBs bacon drippings
Minced celery, onions and green peppers (approx 1-1/2 TBs of each; you can grate the above using a box grater or micro plane if ya prefer.
1 TB mustard
Place the beans in a greased shallow pan. Cover the top with:
Bacon slices and/or sliced franks.
Bake covered for 30 mins. Uncover and bake 15-30 minutes more.
My notes
Use a shallow aluminum pan; bake on Weber using indirect heat= 15 mins uncovered.Baking in traditional home oven= 30mins uncovered.
Plain ol cheapest supermarket brand beans work best for this in my experience.
