When camping it's charcoal and wood. Some things just shouldn't be short cut
In that case it shouldn't matter if you are camping or not.
And lump charcoal is best.
Wood will always be the best flavor for meats
For me it's camping time that I get to do most of my grilling. Excepting the 2 days a year the local park's rangers turn a blind eye to Webers and such: Labour Day and the 4th of July. And of late I make it my business to not be in the city for at least Independence Day. Macy's does a bang-up job with the fireworks display but the crowds now make me crazed.
Last summer whilst packing the car for camping the bag holding grilling woods was left behind in front of my building. The bag had wine staves, pecan, mesquite, and various fruit woods within it. I bet whoever found it was clueless as to it's worth and threw it in a trash can. Sighhh.
Lump charcoal fer sure....current fav is Royal Oak since it's easiest to find. Ordered some Rockwood to be picked up near the campsite and will see how it goes this year.
