Personally, I try to avoid ANY processed foods; especially while on the road. They mess w/my digestion AND high BP and just generally sap my energy. Although sometimes, a couple of small cans of BeanieWeenies can go down pretty good with some crackers after a day's drive.
One thing I really like on the road is a Hobo Lunch. Take ½-pound of hamburger and make them into 2 patties. Place each on a large sheet of aluminum foil. Cut up potatoes, onions, green pepper, broccoli, cauliflower – whatever amount and combination YOU like! – and toss on the foil w/the burger. Season to taste (I use some black pepper and a dash or two of Tony Chacheré's. Careful though: It has LOTS of salt in it!). Wrap up well (there are juices that will come out of the meat in cooking; be sure to tear off a large enough sheet so that you can wrap everything up in once piece of foil) and bake at 400° for 50 minutes to an hour. Voilà!! Dinner! This goes great with some white rice.
You can cook both at once OR save the other in the 'fridge for a day or two later. (I wouldn't keep it for more than 2 days unfrozen, however).
