slow-cooker ribs?

Has anyone set a rack of ribs in a slow cooker for hours, and then browned them up on the grill?

I'm wondering how the texture comes out? Since a lot of slow cookers are meant to take cheap cuts of beef and turn it into tender stew meat, I wonder if it turns the ribs into mush?

I am not a fan of stew or soups, but I'm looking for a way to cook stuff while driving, and I think a slow cooker is the only way with my rig. So I'm thinking ribs, whole chicken, chili, what else?

I need to measure my sink and find a cooker that'll fit nicely into it.
