YUK - MIL used to mix rutabagas and mashed potatoes together - was suppose to be a treat, but not in my mind -just a way to ruin mashed potatoes.
She was Scottish so maybe that is Scottish cuisine - maybe serve a little Haggis on the side ? Not in my house!
We like the rutabagas mashed and mashed potatoes. Nothing wrong with it. Tastes run different between people.
We'd gladly eat at your mother-in-law's table. She sounds like she is a kind and generous hostess.
