Good to see you NYCgrrl. Yep the forum has been quiet lately probably everybody is FBing. I don't like FB. I like the more involved conversations here. - NYCgrrlExplorer

thems fighting words.
Ha Ha!, This reminded me of a lunch with at that time future Mother inlaw 50 yrs ago. My husbands favorite at the time. I gag at the smell of it. I have been raised with homemade pasta and raviolis etc. that I now make for my family. Have converted both of them to real Italian.
When you think about it, Italian, Mexican, Chinese they all have
basic 5-6 ingredients, at least the American version. Someday, I hope to get to Italy. - valhalla360Navigator

Isn't that the truth anywhere you go? Randomly pick a dozen restaurants in a U.S. city and you will have some good/great meals and some that were less than appetizing.
Much less common in Italy to have a bad meal. - valhalla360Navigator

yes, I have had some good steaks in Italy. (and the Italian section of Switzerland) but have also had to be somewhat selective in the restaurant chosen.
I have had some that obviously didn't finish in the money in the KY derby. ;)

Yeah, I know, why go to a nice chop house when the local Chinese place does beef & brocoli. :C
Exaggerated a bit but same principal. If you want a really good steak in the USA, you don't go to a place where steak isn't their thing. You may find the stray mom & pop place that does an awesome steak but that's the exception rather than the rule.
Same thing in Italy except you will tend to find, they are more traditional in that they typically won't serve food inconsistent with their restaurant type. - toedtoesExplorer III

Clearly have never had a good Steak Florentine. Any Texan would walk away from the table happy.
