The cooker has it's own drain pan, I think the OP is using the big pan for staging the cooker off of the ground.
Yup, understood that. We camp a lot where there is gravel and I could use something like that, just never thought about a drip pan. I can use one for our small Brinkman smoker and our Big Easy.
