I recently came into possession of a massive cast iron griddle that is perfect for those big Sunday morning campsite breakfasts.None of the compartments in my camper are big enough for it, though, so I need to stow it on the floor or on the dinette bench while traveling.I'd kind of like to wrap it in something to keep from getting lint, dust, and dirt on the griddle, and to keep any "black stuff" from getting on the dinette cushion fabric.Seems like anything cloth or paper based is counterproductive: Lint City there. Plastic worries me due to the fact that it doesn't "breathe," and will trap moisture and might cause funkyness.

Is it too big to store in your oven?

I sometimes use large trash bags for that kind of stuff. If the bag gets in bad shape, just replace it

So, are you talking 16 inch diameter or larger?I use a blue storage container type under the bunk in my truck camper. They're great for everything, dog food, clothes.... & they stack. One could put your griddle on top of one. I would use either cloth or cardboard for cushioning the griddle. Fabric would wipe of easier and slide less, JHMO.Here is a photo of a container I hope. Dishtowels or an old bath towel work fine for me; never had a problem with lint but you want to use a tightly woven natural fabric. Keep in mind that our ancestors used fabric to dry dishes and glasses long before automatic dishwashers became the norm. Take a look at William-Sonoma dishtowels; kinda funny just had a 2 page discussion on 'em at another forum I frequent, LOL.Should you prefer I'm sure various CI makers sell quilted covers. I wouldn't store my CI long term in garbage bags due to concerns about off gassing and food surfaces. HTH!

Use a large trash bag so the soot or dirt on the pot will not get anything dirty inside your camper. Once the pot is stored away, open the bag from the top and just leave it open with the bag wrapped around the rest. This way, the pot can breathe, and when you need to take it out, you just simply roll the bag back around it and lift it out. Camper stays clean and pot can breath.

We have draw string bags made of flannel kitchen towels we keep our iron in. One can keep a sheen of oil on the iron and they don't attract dust bunnies. The skillet/lid bags have a divider so they don't clank while driving.

We have a cast-iron grill/griddle that covers two burners of a stove. Using a sewing machine, I made a cloth storage bag out of a terrycloth towel. I store it upright in the cab of my truck behind the rear seat.

I bought some old tent canvas, not nylon or plastic. Think they were the roofs of canvas tents. And keep the canvas Just In Case. This works great for such items. DW was a seamstress and cut & sewed bags to hold all our DO stuff. We put on velcro closures, ties & even snaps pending on the design.

X3. Easy peasy. A King sized case should do it. If you want to pad it a bit, old newspaper works nicely. If you have a storage area under the seats of your dinette, it should be able to fit there.

Congratulations on that griddle. Cast iron is the best for campfires IMO.:W

Cabbalas sells bags for them,I have one for my large cast iron griddle I use on a triple burner duck blind stove. It has handles and is zippered, it works very well

No diameter, he said griddle..

Camp chef does make bags for there griddles, I have a three burner camp chef stove with I beleive a 16"X24" griddle and I have the bag for that, although the whole works is for sale on craigslist because I bought a bigger one to cook for the family, a 24"X36".

I have my great grandmother's. We have a folding table that goes under the awning in front of the trailer. I made a heavy, plastic fitted cover for the table. Rubbermaid storage boxes fit under the table. One of them has, among many other things. the griddle.
We are camping 80-100 nights most years. Nothing has ever been stolen from under the table.
The griddle could also be wrapped in a heavy towel and put under the sofa.
If we are traveling the boxes stay on one of the bunks.

How much of a cast iron junkie are you? Will I be safe if I post the details? You will have to pry it from my cold dead hands, and since it'll stop most small caliber handgun rounds, and stabbing instruments, you will have to put up one heck of a fight. :)

Cooking area is about 14x27. It covers all four burners on my kitchen stove. Whole batch of pancakes in one go.

When I got it, it desperately needed to be stripped and re-seasoned. It would not fit in my kitchen oven, even with all the racks removed and diagonally! So, I had to season it the hard way.

I've used it several times now, getting it nice and worked in for camping next summer.

I like it so much I'm shopping for a new 5- or 6-burner gas range for the kitchen so I can evenly heat the whole thing.
