Weber Q-100 vs Q-200

i have the Q100 (camper) and the Q200 (house). suprisingly, the Q100 heats better and gets hotter. It will sear a steak better. All based on the size and BTU's.

Q100 - 189-square-inch cooking area and 8,500-BTU
Q200 - 280-square-inch cooking area and 12,000-BTU

That's the right thing! Coleman makes one. I saw one today at Canadian Tire.

We purchased a Q1200 this year and really like it. We've had it loaded up with 10 large hamburgers and no problems.

The one thing I have noticed, though, it does cool off quickly with the lid open and can take a while to recover.

It is also sensitive to preheat time. Make sure you give it a good 10-15 mins to heat up to 400F or so before adding meat. Give it enough time to thoroughly heat up the cast iron grates, which helps greatly with keeping the temp steady.

For us the size is just right for the 3 of us plus a frequent guest or two and can be stretched to cook for a larger group.

Oh- this is a biggie- it seems to cook about the same on all locations of the grill if it is properly heated. If not properly heated or allowed to cool down too much and you rely on a high flame, the sections with fewer holes in the grates will obviously be slower.

We have both BBQ'S and they work the same. No difference at all except the size.

I just got the Q2200 with side shelves and thermometer.
I may have bought the smaller Q1200, but there are none in stock at any stores to look at or compare sizes.

I have to say though, it is bad azz. Fired it up the first time to burn off the paint fumes and had no problem reaching 575-600 degrees.

I think for on the boat I would get the smaller Q1200

I agree on the Q100 having the heat to sear. Before you buy a Q100, look at the Q120. Same grill, but will some very handy side trays that fold over the top of the grill.

Our Baby Q has been working fine for years.

The 100 works great.
