Weber Q?

Best portable there is for my money, and I've had a few.

Mine is still plugging along after 8 years of duty.

Side tables are the only junk piece on them. I built my own table to use for grill and to give me space to set things.

Propane bottle will depend on use. I'd say a solid 2-3 hours is what to expect. I'd recommend getting the optional hose and connecting to a larger propane tank, unless you're trying to stay minimalist.

I've had the Weber Q-2200 for a bit over a year now, love it. I haven't kept close count, but would guess I can cook 5 to 6 meals on the small cylinder. I have 5 of them; refill them off a 20lb tank. While discouraged by the manufacturers of the bottles, adapters are sold and there are videos on YouTube describing how to refill them.

I can't give you feedback on how they cook meat, as wife and I are vegetarians, but all things we grill on the bigger Weber at home, we find are just as easy to cook on the Q. Asparagus, bell peppers, eggplant, zucchini, mushrooms of all sizes, bread to toast, quesadillas with a range of fillings, pineapple and other fruits for deserts ... does it all!

I didn't think of any of this. I was thinking more in the line of burgers and dog's. This opens up a whole new menu :)

We have had ours for 5 years and love it. I have put away our old "tin" grill and we use only this smaller Weber. First grill I have ever owned that has a good igniter. Five years and still working. The temps are pretty uniform across the the entire cooking surface. I tend to cook at the highest temperature (read steak charred on outside, red inside) and a cylinder lasts probably 1 hour?

If all you are going to cook is "burgers and dogs", save your money. If you want to really cook steaks, chops, veggies, fish, etc, then the Weber is a good grill. I personally use a table top gas grill from Walmart and have for many years and I have no problem cooking whatever I want with the. I think is was $29.95, but I've had it and used it regualary for about 7 years.

Work well? Absolutely - best portable I've ever had.

Hold up to the test of time? Also very good. I have had a couple of control valves go out (my own fault, see below) and Weber sent no cost no shipping charge replacements in a couple of days.

We use the folding side tables.

1lb bottle about 3.5 to 4 hours on full tilt

And now a note about the control valves. My neighbor and I both had this happen to us and both were able to get replacements, but if you are careful you can avoid it. Apparently when you use the adapter hose to a larger tank if you do not open he valves in the correct sequence you can put the control valve into "leak detection" mode, where it will allow only a minimum of flow through no matter what you do. In order to avoid you have to ensure you pressurize the system by having the grill valve closed, line connected, and then open the tank valve - wait a few minutes for the pressure to build, and then finally turn the grill on - or at least that is what the Weber folks told me on the phone. Opening the tank value and the grill valve at the same time might trigger the problem.

At any rate they sent a replacement valve right away because once it got into the "leak detection" mode it would not recover, even with the small bottle attached. FWIW they told me this condition cannot occur with the small bottle.

Anyway that is the only problem I have ever had the WeberQ and Weber fixed it pronto. I have the large (non portable) model for home and the 220 for the road. I think it is fine to use the adapter hose just as long as you open things using the correct procedure.

We've had the smaller portable Weber for years and it's a great grill. I haven't replaced any parts on it at all, yet. I bought a 5 lb. tank for use with the travel trailer. We have a larger Weber grill here at the house. I've had it for a long time (12-15 yrs.??) and over time, I've replaced the flavor bars and the cooking grids. I think the Weber grills are well worth the few extra dollars, and any parts you do need are easy to get.

Best you can buy IMO. My Q is going on 11 years old.

This was my strategy for mane years until I finally bought a Weber. I cook almost daily on the Weber for 3 to 4 months each year. A Walmart special would only last so long. And it would flare up when grease dripped. There is no comparison between Weber and Walmart.
