- tatestExplorer III've stayed there. Name of the place was Fort Wilderness. Stayed in a rental trailer on the property (might be called a park model today). Cost me about 1/3 more than staying in a 3-star hotel justvoff property two years later. For access to Magic Kingdom, access by ferry across the pond was better than bus from the hotels. For other locations un WDW, you will be taking bus from the transportation center either way.
We found the campfire program nice. View on Magic Kingdom fireworks show from campground was also nice. After hours access to Magic Kingdom was really nice.
About the only thing that could beat Fort Wilderness would be hotel in Polynesian Village.
It is a "get what you pay for" issue, like staying in a midtown hotel between Central Park and Times Square, vs a Ramada or Holiday Inn in Newark. But if you've not visited NYC, that probably doesn't mean anything. - twainharteartisExplorerThank you so much everyone you all have been so helpful. RVers are the greatest people. This is my first long trip.

You said the same thing 7 minutes ago. - eHoeflerExplorer III wouldn't really say it is expensive, at first glance, yes it is pricey. We stayed there last Oct. for a week, total cost, just under $800. If you stay outside the park, you're going to spend $50+ a night. Can spend as much as an hour or more on the road traveling to the parks. Parking is going to be $15-$20 a day. Then you get to drive home. While there, I never started the truck, we bicycled to the main bus terminal or boat dock. By the time you figure the cost of fuel to drive, the parking, and the time to travel and ride the shuttles, I think it is very economical to stay at the park.
- TvovExplorer IISearch for threads about Fort Wilderness, and look over sites like Fort Fiends and Disboards.
Disney World's Fort Wilderness is considered by many (myself included) to be one of the best campgrounds in the USA. Price varies with the season.
Coming from Connecticut, and considering what Fort Wilderness offers, I actually don't consider it over priced at all. It is not cheap, but I think you get a lot in return.
When we made reservations, we went through AAA and found it to be very helpful, and got a good discount on one of our trips. Search around a little bit, there always seems to be some sort of deal or promotion going on with Disney. - YC_1Nomad

Ask for a modem and you will have Wi-Fi. It connects to their cable.
Cost includes Disney transportation, fireworks shows, pools, and great fun. - Nutinelse2doExplorerHere is everything you need and want to know about Fort Wilderness.
- bee_46ExplorerHave stayed there several times over the past years from the 1990's to 2013. Quite expensive, but everything in Disney World is expensive. You can park your camper and not have to drive for your entire stay. There are boats or buses to the different parks and buses within the campground to get around. The bathrooms are clean. We were able to use a modem supplied by the campground for internet access. I believe you had to give a deposit or a credit card number (I don't remember which) but it was returned when the modem was returned at the end of our stay.
You can also rent golf carts to get around the campground as well, but we were okay with using the bus system. - edbehnkeExplorerstayed there. expensive. clean and nice. no wifi. found it was easier to just drive to the differnt places didn't really use buses.
google them for costs. - fcooperExplorer IIJust left there. Fairly expensive, but is nice and clean. Rates go up on the weekends. No wifi where I was. Short walk to bus stop with transportation to anywhere in Disney World after that. We really enjoyed it. The rates probably reflect the cost of the extensive free transportation system. The buses/boats really make getting into the parks much easier than driving in my opinion.
I watched a coach leave this morning, and within 20 minutes the site had been cleaned with blower and the cement pad was washed to get ready for the next occupant. Trash containers about every 3 sites.
You should try it.
