Disney World

What is the best route to take from Dayton, Ohio I-75? Also some nice places to stay along the way. We plan on leaving on Saturday possibly Sunday and arriving on Monday for check-in time at 3:00pm. Thanks for any info..
  • If you look at SunPass or any other state pass, ask about towing a vehicle. I only started limited search on this, but 1 state said you need 1 for Rv and 1 for tow car. Otherwise, you still have to go thru cashier lane ( if there is a live person on site)
  • The collapsed overpass problem was reopened in about 24 hours.

I can't give a time frame now. I will try and find out.

However having driven it in my car last week, still lots of construction and some narrow lanes. Depending on where you are going. Still suggest using I-275

Do you know how long the construction is going to go on for? Just curious as we are headed down to Florida in April and we usually head straight down 75.

  • Again I want to thank each one of you for your information. Very helpful.
  • The route as Lonny and Dianne suggested is probably the best. For us we generally take the FL turnpike to US27 and down to 192, then take Disney's World Drive in. Our grandsons loved the characters and experience on World Dr. Just says 'Your Here'. It also allows us to stop at Walmart or Publix to stock up before arriving.
Personally, I would not bother with the Sunpass. Just have some cash to pay the tolls. Unless your doing a lot of travelling off Disney you will only use it twice, not worth the 4.99 to save a little on tolls.

Edit added. If you arrive after 12 and before the 3pm check in time, most likely your site will be ready, if not they will directed you to a parking spot and you can take a bus in and check out the campground, pools beach etc.
  • Thanks so much for all the replies. We heard about the construction in Cincinnati, so we will definitely take 275 around the town. And leaving on Saturday sounds like the best choice. We have made selective plans for this visit to Disney, where before we just went. And it seems the cost has gone up quite a bit! But with our granddaughters with us, I'm sure we will have a ball!

Thank you for the information. I hate to sound dumb, but what is a Sun Pass transponder? We haven't traveled many toll roads. I take it has something to do with it.

Sun Pass is Florida's equivalent of E-ZPass. Unlike E-ZPass, which works cooperatively among many states in the general northeastern quadrant of the US, the Florida Sun Pass is its own system, and doesn't interoperate with anything else.

Basically, you have a debit account set up, and scanners at the toll booths read the transponder associated with it and charge your account automatically. It's like a gift card for highway tolls.

  • I-75 would be my choice. Take I-75 South to Florida’s Turnpike South (exit 328, old 65), to I-4 West (exit 259) to Walt Disney World Exits. I would leave Saturday.
We like Holiday Travel Park in Chattanooga TN (Rossville GA) about 6 hours from Dayton with no stops.
We stop in Lake Park GA at Eagles Roost or there is a remodeled campground Good Sam at Camping World across the highway. Lower rates. Good for overnight. There is a Flying J at Lake Park also. Lake Park is about 5 hours from Chattanooga with no stops.
Then get on Florida Turnpike at Wildwood (toll). $10.11 for 4 axles. I would stop and get a SunPass transponder and set up an account. Mini transponder $4.99. You can purchase one via vending machine at:
    Hamilton County Welcome Center
    Interstate I-75
    Mile Marker 470
    1.7 mi. S of FL/GA state line
    Jennings, FL 32053
    Enjoy your trip!
