Many campgrounds (private) do not allow tents...One reason (there are others) is that they kill the grass.
Most public campgrounds..have no problem with tents.
How long do you have to camp to kill the grass? We have camped for a week with our camper we pulled behind our Goldwing motorcycle and never killed the grass.
FYI with respect: The two wheels of the little camper you tow that actually touch the ground probably did not hurt the grass however:
A tent has much larger footprint to cover the grass.
In a summer season, tent after tent placed on the grass and it will die.
Your one weekend is not the issue, but the cumulative effect. On a site, campers tend to pitch a tent at the same location the previous camper did.
What the campground is left with is a mud pit, that must be refurbished at the campground expense.
Also, want virtually instant death and mud? Spin a drive wheel on the grass. Thus no parking on the grass either, please.
Well, fyi, the camper we pulled behind our motorcycle for 15 years has the floor on the ground, about 6X12 feet on a 6X12 piece of indoor/outdoor carpet on the ground for anywhere from 1 night to as long as 6 nights while we traveled on Goldwing.
