Camping and Covid

During this time of pandemics and lock downs, Many people used this time to their advantage and took to the highways in search of adventure. While restaurants and businesses were closing, people were out on Federal lands enjoying themselves. As campgrounds opened and became occupied, what changes did you notice during the post Covid era within them.
  • I second Valhalla’s comment. At the Grand Canyon last May, for instance, every “official” building was closed and every gift shop, hotel and supplier was wide open. One exception…park entrances where folks pay.
  • Spring 2020, people were still freaked out a bit.

By fall 2020, they had largely relaxed. Last year, things were pretty much normal.

Ironically, National Park visitor centers have been largely closed but gift shops are magically shielded from the spread of covid because we were to over a dozen in the last 16 months and every gift shop was open.
  • We just returned home from our 10 week Snowbird trip.
Private campgrounds are pretty much back, except for the plexiglass shields in the office.
Federal parks are still limiting people in some visitor centers and have opened gift shops, but some still haven't opened nature display areas. They all post signs for requiring masks in bathrooms and all buildings.

  • Haven't noticed much. Some distancing, some masks, crowded locations, disgust with Govt. actions.
