Family - - - too little, too late

WE like to take our grandchildren to camp for a few days. A couple of weeks ago the idea was floated to take some during the Easter Break.

I asked particular questions regarding the EXACT dates of the various schools' days off and got vague 'we will get back to you' type responses.

Needless to say (OK, so now I said it) 2 weeks later suddenly some of them want to go. Problem is, its too late. All campsites on State Beaches in southern CA are all booked up.

Now we're the bad guys.

Have you ever noticed how fast the bus goes when you’re running for it? And how slow it goes when you’re on it?

  • We would really enjoy sharing our love for camping with friends and family, but we live in an age when everyone is too busy. We can't get any friends to commit. We're leaving Friday for a trip and our boys invited a friend to come. Haven't heard back from him in a week. So, we enjoy it with our own children and when they're gone, we'll enjoy it together.

I do always envy those campsites that are loaded with extended family though. But we're the oddballs in our circle for seeking out doing "nothing".
  • We get the same nonresponse from our kids. Seems they are just too busy to even respond at all 1/2 the time. I remember those days when we were young and life was hectic.
  • We had the same problem as well. Finally got one night at Bolsa Chica for one night. It cost over 70 bucks. What a rip off California is!
  • I did get a reservation at a beach RV park not a state beach. Plus I had to say NO to somebody. Tough luck. Only time will tell if they learn anything.
  • the only suggestion I have is to go ahead and make a reservation. If you have to cancel, try to do it within the required time limit.
  • I know what you are saying. I try not to let it bother me when something like that happens to us. I try to tell my kids, "You snooze you lose" They still don't like to answer soon. You could possibly take them somewhere besides the beach, we have a lot here in CA to see. JMO
