We meet lots of people from Illinois in Custer State Recreation Area between Battle Creek and Augusta Michigan. Three lakes for fishing and one for swimming. Bike paths thru the woods. Horse paths also.
We have gone to the National Forest in southern Illnois and enjoyed it but we go for the hiking.
