If you don't get enough ideas from this Forum do a Google search for `________tourism' and put Pennsylvania or a city of interest in the blank space and read what the specialists recommend.
For a 10 year old I'd look for the closest theme park with lots of rides...
Ofcourse I can search from google but folks here will wealth of information and I can be interactive with thoughts and ideas. Hope you did something also this long weekend taking out RV.
Smokey - smokey_truckExplorerThanks everyone for all the suggestions, we ended up going to Presque Isle State Park and it is beautiful place and had tons to do here. The list you all suggested is great for next few visits. Hope you all had fun too.
Smokey - fitznjExplorerPA is a great place to camp; Virtually ANY state campground is good; Most have a lake, a trail, kayaking, biking, disc golf. Some are remote but lots of outdoor stuff to do.
I'm heading back there again next week; - sorenExplorerdouble post, somehow?

x3 Gettysburg (stayed at the KOA, it was nice), x2 Strasburg and surrounding little Amish towns. Lake in Wood near Reading is probably the 2nd nicest campground I've been to in 20 years. (second only to WDW Fort Wilderness) Quarryville Jellystone is nice too, with a little water park.
I didn't see Turkey Hill Experience mentioned above, that's close. As is Dutch Wonderland amusement park.
You won't have a lack of things to do in Lancaster county if you like small towns!
Totally agree with your review of Lake in the Wood. We are regulars at Fort Wilderness, and until we moved to Lancaster County, we were also regulars at LITW. Tough to find a nicer campground in the area, or even the state, for that matter. Turkey Hill Experience would be great for the OP's ten year old. The wife and I are 5-6X older, but we had a blast there. The Northwest River trail starts about a block from there, and it's our favorite bike trail. - kdennenyExplorerx3 Gettysburg (stayed at the KOA, it was nice), x2 Strasburg and surrounding little Amish towns. When it comes to trains, if you're heading up from northern VA, you can't beat the Strasburg railroad. It's the highest attendance steam trail attraction in the USA, and it's been in continuous operation longer than any other railroad in the states. For the OP, it's half as far as Scranton, less than three hours from home. The bonus is that you can step off the Strasburg RR and across the street to the Pennsylvania train museum. Once you finish the museum, you are deep in Amish country, with a few hundred options when it comes to what to do, what to eat, and where to stay. When you cross the street at Steamtown, you're in, well, downtown Scranton, which was really something special back in the day, maybe the WW2 era. Today, not so much.
The only warning about visiting the Strasburg RR is that there are several times a year when "Thomas the Train" arrives in Strasburg. This results in thousands of preschoolers, and their parents, flooding this little town. Nothing wrong with that, it's pretty cool to see vast herds of happy little kids, but it's best to know about it ahead of time. Have a great trip, whatever you decide. - Dick_BExplorerIf you don't get enough ideas from this Forum do a Google search for `________tourism' and put Pennsylvania or a city of interest in the blank space and read what the specialists recommend.
