Jekyll island or Where

My family and i are looking for a place to camp the last full week of June. Has anyone had any experiences with Jekyll Island, good or bad? We usually stay at Top Sail hill FL,or Gulf Shores area and this will be something new for us. Anyone have other suggestions? I want it to be a great expeirence my oldest son is leaving for the Army and will be our last family vacation together for a long while
  • We were just at the state park in St. Marys, GA which was pretty nice. And, exploring Cumberland Island is really interesting. We took the tour and it was really worth the cost, but took up the whole day. On our next stop, I would like to take the boat over and then just do some leisurely hiking. St. Marys is a nice little town to see, and if you go there, go to St. Marys Seafood for a meal. Great food at very, very reasonable prices. It's outside of the original village....I had a great flounder dinner and the DW had a great shrimp dinner.

But, going to Jeckyll Island is also on our list along with the adjacent area. We hope to visit that area possibly after taking a winter break to FL next Feb. & March.
  • We go there often and its one of our favorites. It is nothing like Topsail. Sites can be a little tight and the ocean is not clear like the gulf. There are more than 22 miles of bike trails and at low tide you can ride bikes the full length of the island on the beach. Lots to do on and off the island.
Feel free to pm me with any questions.
  • We have been to Jekyll but we camped elsewhere. We stayed in Brunswick. Jekyll Island is nice and you can bike all over the island. We toured the campground but determined it was a little tight for us. However many do camp there and it all depends on the size of your rig. We are going back there at the end of May but we will be staying at the state park in St. Mary's Crooked River. Within 30 miles there are a lot of things to see. It is different then being on a Gulf side campground. Kinda funny we will be at Top Sail in October.
