Lots of camping this weekend!

We camped about 2 hours away from home this weekend. About half way home I remarked to my wife that we were seeing a lot of campers on the road. From that point on, my wife counted how many we passed going the opposite way. 42 in just an hour! I didn't realize how popular camping has become.

  • Drove 77 miles on I64 (runs east/west) in KY on the way home Sunday and started counting campers. We were shocked that we only counted 15 in the 77 miles.

The campground we stayed at had 121 empty good spaces as well. I guess everyone stays home the weekend after Memorial Day Weekend???
  • I and my family stayed at billabong camp last week, the food was amazing, the tours were informative and the staff was incredible. A team of volunteers showed us around the camp and the zoo, they were really polite and social. Then there were the hosts, they ran the program like clockwork, never missing a step but at the same time socializing with us and other guests. The whole experience was incredible and I really recommend it to all!!
  • I know the feeling, and I'm jealous! A couple of years age we went to Plymouth mass the week after Labor Day. After the weekend we were like one of three campers left. It was magical! That's when you appreciate the kids being out of the house.
  • Came back home Tuesday, and didn't see a single camper on the road going either direction, not even transports. Just an FYI!

It was really GREAT coming home on Tuesday. All week-end the campground was 100% capacity. Monday morning they all started breaking camp. Monday night, we were the ONLY one there, except one other in the distance on a different loop. After all the noise and confusion going on, and all the entertainment watching everyone break camp, Monday evening and night was AWESOME! Stone quiet! The only noise we had was the crackling of our campfire. Really great Monday night!
  • We drove from Georgia into Florida and saw lots of all types of campers heading both directions. Good thing we left early!
  • I know you did not see me on the road, I'm still at the campground. (Salamonie, Indiana) Will be heading home on Tuesday.

I don't want to wish my life away, but retirement sure would be nice! My wife and I often travel in the fall after kids go back to school and it's great.

  • I went from Michigan City Indiana to Shipshewana Indian via the toll road. It was hard to tell who was camping and who was delivering but the Campground just South of the flea market was full.
