What is "yuck"about bourbon street? Never been, but it's on the list.

With kids the yuck could be first couple of blocks from Canal street that have a few strip clubs and other houses of ill repute. Depending on the kids age it could lead to questions that you might no be ready to answer.

After dark, and especially later at night, the whole thing can become sketchy. Very obvious cross dressers, folks propositioning, drunks puking. Not a place I would take my kids, but they are younger (11 and under) and not all that worldly. However I might take them for lunch.

It really depends on your kids age, and how sheltered they are.

Wife and I walked Bourbon Street yesterday and had a great time. We are staying at Bayou Segnette State Park with water and Elec. for $20 a night. Took the Algiers ferry to the French Quarters.

St Bernard State Park

French Quarter RV Resort - easy walk to the French Quarter & Bourbon Street. No worries about parking (or extra expense) and yes, there's a pool for the kids.

Be sure to take the Algiers Ferry for a $2 ride across the mighty Mississippi - best deal in town. Leaves from Canal Street. We also enjoyed a tour from park rangers at the New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park (although it might be a bit dry for kids).

Just wandering people watching & listening to street music was great for us. ENJOY!

At first I thought no way New Orleans for kids. Then I did a Google and founds lots. One site being New Orleans for Kids.
