Suggestions for a good portable high chair

Looking for suggestions on a good portable high chair to use for a 1 year old while camping. We camp in a fifth wheel looking for one to keep in the camper. I've seen a few different kind on the internet and just wondering what others are using. Thanks.

  • Grandma here...checking in with my "I wish they made" item number 8,243:

Wouldn't it be cool if someone designed a stroller that somehow "folded up" and became a high chair?

Two birds/one stone= more room to haul other stuff!
  • My kids had a booster seat that folded flat for storage, came with a detachable tray (to push up to table if you didn't need the tray) and worked on a variety of seats. I would recommend that because it would work in your dinette, outside on a *stable* folding chair and would be handy to take into restaurants if that options arose.

I want to say it was Step 2 or one of those. Came in multi primary colors (that's probably changed with the times). Very handy.
  • Sigh, I'm going to be "that guy". You asked a clear question and I'm going to answer it with an alternative. Sorry in advance. :-)

So, what we ended up with was first a Go Pod (not that gosh awful ugly color, but same idea) when baby was old enough to sit up, but not quite big enough to fully support himself. We would sit on the edge of the picnic table bench and fed him from there. It was also nice because he would hang out and watch the world go by and we didn't have to worry about where he was crawling away to. It collapses really easily and is fairly small in size.

Once he got a little big for that, we ended up switching to a regular plastic fold-up chair. The one we have was from Sams Club or Walmart and has some heft to it. On top of it, we would strap down one of the normal infant high chair seats (much like this. We've done this for the entire camping season so far (from April when he was 10 months old until now at 14 months old) and will continue with it for quite a while.

The high chair seat is a little bulky, but when we're not using it- we just set it on the dinette bench seat and we'll even feed him strapped in there.

Otherwise, to your actual question- we did see friends who had a fold up high chair that collapsed like a folding camp/bag chair. My only issue was that it was really short. Seemed like baby would outgrow it pretty quick.
  • I use a booster seat strapped to a folding chair. used that set-up with our son when he was younger, now use it with our daughter. when we are traveling the seat stays strapped to the chair and gets put on the bench seat, then it sits at the end of the table for meals. easy to carry outside to the picnic table. our children have always wanted to be at the table with us in a booster seat, instead of in a high chair with a tray.
