Summer trip from Pennsylvania to Maine

If from central or western PA, consider Letchworth State park or Watkins Glen State Park in New York. They offer both hiking and scenery in spades.

In New Hampshire, the White Mountains have a lot to offer...many options in that area, and I'm not sure I can offer too many specific suggestions. The "Kanc" (Kancamagus highway, NH 112 between Lincoln and Conway) is a very lovely road to go over, with many scenic pull-outs with views or hikes or walks. Conway/North Conway is a bit of a mess to drive through, at times more than a bit of a mess, however.

Depending on your route, it may be a good bit more than five hours between the New York stop and the New Hampshire stop. This is absolutely the case for the parks in the Finger Lakes that I mentioned above; it's close to five hours to the Vermont border from them, maybe a bit less to the Massachusetts border.

If you haven't gone anywhere in your RV yet (assuming you aren't renting), I'd suggest making a smaller trip to begin with, possibly to your own driveway or possibly a little bit farther than that. If you're not too far away, Knoebels might be a reasonable option.

Sorry but it's really really REALLY late in the reserving season for the most popular water spots and parks in those states. Was just chatting with a cyber acquaintance about her booking a summer reservation for Acadia in ME 6 months back; I booked my regular kiddo summer trip in CT 11 months ago when the reservation window opened. Was one day late and missed getting my favorite spots.

This is not to stop you from going; just to help tailor your expectations.

For NYS for instance look for parks or spots that aren't full hookups but are still near areas you'd enjoy hiking and viewing attractions. I'm rather fond of Taughannock Falls ( partial hook up but has dump station), the nearby Buttermilk Falls(no dump station) and Robert Treman (full hook up avail) State parks for camping and beautiful surroundings. It's surrounding region is close to Watkins Glen, the Finger Lakes and other well known spots.

Camping near Old Orchard Beach in Maine offers a number of attractions for the kids...Old Orchard KOA is right there! Remember, it's really busy during the time frame you mention, so reserve early...WalMart parking probably would not be a fun thing.

Go a Google search for `______ tourism' and put the town, state, area, etc in the blank space. Seems like a stop in Boston would be educational for all concerned. Take the bus tour.

Bayley rv resort in Old Orchard has trolley service to beach and town.

Somewhat out of the box here, if staying close to the campground is a priority might look into bearcreak campground in Bristol ct. Convenient stop over on your way to me.

Campground is very similar to knobels in pa where as you have a all in one amusement park + campground
