Thanksgiving 2015 Camping Trip in the Southeast

We are a family of four looking to go camping for Thanksgiving 2015. We will be taking the whole week off and are willing to drive 10-12 hours from our home in North Alabama. We like water sports, biking, relaxing, hiking, etc... but we would like to camp somewhere that there will likely be other families... and it would be great if the park has cabins for rentals (in case friends/family) want to join us.

We are new to camping (purchased in January 2015) and have only gone for 2-3 nights pretty close to home.

I haven't found a great website that will let me search all over the place but with a lot of filtering. Anyone have some advice there??

Thanks!

  • Most of the Florida state parks on the Gulf Coast are very lively at Thanksgiving and several have cabins. We have been at Ochlockonee River SP the past four Thanksgivings and the six before that we were at Anastasia at St. Augustine. If you are not a member of RVillage you might want to sign up (it is free). We have found that site to be a good way to meet people and maybe get together. lizzie
  • The Florida Gulf Coast is very nice that time of year. The Florida State Park system is one of the best there is. Some SP campgrounds have FHU camping. Good luck with the search, if you need suggestions for Florida let me know. I like this site for searches, photos of every campsite;

  • Devils Fork in upstate SC is wonderful. It's on Lake Jocassee. The campground is small, wooded, and family friendly. They do have cabins. It's one of my favorite campgrounds.
