Flashlights! This part of Texas they can hunt Wolf spiders when it gets dark. Have them put the flashlite next to their head so it shines out in front of them. The little blue dots they'll find are Wolf spiders staring back at them.
And of course what kid with a flashlite won't spend hours trying to signal the stars?
