How wrong you are. Many of the RVers that have RV park RVs have been there done that for many years. I have been camping since the early 50s. Sleeping bag on the ground, (didn't have room in the MG midget for more than a sleeping bag) then to pup tents, on to modern full size tents, then shoveling out the horse trailers and sleeping in the horse trail away from the bears, moved on to TC shells up off the ground, then to full size TCs, TTs, MHs, 5vers, back to MHs.
I can tell you what you have missed. Back in the 50s you could drive into the national parks and they weren't commercialized. Didn't need any reservations. Just drive in and find a free spot.(no ATM machines) Out in the national forest area you wouldn't ever see another camper, even in CA. Camped in a sleeping bag on the ground on top of Alamo mountain, off the grape vine, and did not see anybody for an entire month. Camped on the shores of lake Powell in a cove for long periods. NO PEOPLE. However, old age catches up with all of us. Sleeping in a sleeping bag on the ground and brushing off the snow in the morning doesn't have the appeal it had when I was a whole lot younger plus waking up in the morning and realizing I couldn't make coffee because the water was frozen taught me to pour the water in the coffee pot the night before. Lots of memories. Naw, us old folks in RVs didn't miss anything.. Glad you can still enjoy some of it.
If you were there, I was probably there 25 years earlier. :B
