Time to close - down_homeExplorer IINearest neighbor is may 3/8 mile or so. Nearest, in other directions over two miles.
I sure ain't going to put food on the porches.
Only thing I might put out would be a little more corn, a fair ways from the house.
I doubt it or they would hang around long. They probably head for the deeper woods of northern middle Alabama. Who knows? Wildlife seems to be adapting to us better tha nwe are to them. - Sprink-FitterExplorer

I walked part, of the yard this evening.
I can count on three fingers the number of times I've seen bear tracks including maybe this evening. There's a bit of a wallow near the spring too.
This time the last few years and again in the spring someone spots a bear, apparently traveling through the area.
I would like to see one. I've seen two or maybe three near Townsend, Tn many years ago.
There is nothing here a bear could hurt usually. They feed mostly on berries and such and the carcases along the RxR apparently since most seem to follow it.
Anyone ever tried to keep one near? I don't mean walk up to it and feed it hamburger, not that it would stand there.
I scatter some corn for Turkeys and Deer. It's legal as long as they aren't hunted here, or so I understand.
Would an extra pile, of corn work and be legal? If not I ain't about to do it.
You could try it, almost the end of the year and the Darwin awards a coming up, you just might make number 1. - DuctapeExplorerA friend had her car mauled by a bear when a cat or something else small took refuge underneath.

You are serious about trying to attract a bear to your house? If a bear gets used to finding food at your house, it will actively look for food even if you don't leave any out - meaning it will go through doors. Virtually every time a state Department of Environmental Protection (or Wildlife) has to come to a property to euthanize a "nuisance bear" it is because someone started to feed the bear. Best way to get a bear killed is to feed it.
Please enjoy wildlife, but from a distance. Let wildlife be wild.
1000% agree. Your neighbors with children and pets will be extremely angry. Bears kill pets, children, cause property damage if any food is located within it. There's a reason wildlife experts repeatedly warn against feeding bears; they can rip locked car doors off to get to a bag chips.
If you want to see bears a zoo will provide ample opportunity. - phillygExplorer IIThat's a very bad thought to have developed and expressed.
- brewjazExplorerWhat Tvov said--X10. You're just asking for the Fish and Game Commission (or whatever your local agency is) to come kill the bears. In PA they give the bear a chance or two---if it's caught in suburban or urban area they relocate it once, MAYBE twice--then they kill it. If bears know you are feeding them they WILL be back.

You need to look up the DNR site and learn all there is about bears. YES they CAN hurt and kill your pets and you. It is illegal to feed bears and will only end up in them being euthanized if they become a nuisance and/or someones pet gets mauled or killed.:(Tvov wrote:
