Thanks to everyone for the condolences. We're adjusting, but it takes time. We know we did the right thing for her sake, even though it isn't easy. She was definitely loved and cherished.
DH has a Chesapeake Bay Retriever. We got her out of a shelter 12 years ago -- and she was guess-timated at 18 months to 2 years when we got her. So if she's not 14, she's close to it. Her hips are going out.
Had her to the vet, and with meds, she is doing better. The goal is to keep her comfortable. But I'm afraid she's not going to be with us a lot longer.
