- tbredExplorer IIThinking of BenBen and hoping surgery goes well tomorrow. As I posted previously, our German Shepherd had the same procedure recently and has done remarkably well. Our dog is actually a working k9 and resumed his job as soon as the sutures were removed 2 weeks post surgery (he lives to work) and you would never know he's minus an organ!!

Not sure how to answer DOC, but thanks to the "Man Upstairs" and Harlee's surgeon Dr. Lenius. Harlee did extremely well, so much so that I never wouldn't have known her spleen (or anything) was removed if I didn't know it!
I understand at the time of her surgery she was younger then BenBen. But after keeping her for a few days for observation, she was back on her feet when Ma picked her up at Dr. Lenius' office.

Well, news this morning. Not as good as we hoped, but OK. There were some small clusters of cells they thought were sarcoma. We see the surgeon today and will probably have a spleenectomy on Friday. We hope to give him some good extra time.

To me, this is better than myeloma. If the sarcoma is isolated to the spleen (no ultrasound evidence in the heart), removal could be curative (ask Lance about Harlee). Dogs do quite well without a spleen!!
Continued good thoughts and prayers.
