- Doesn't seem possible Nell is 14. She really looks good. Miss hearing much about your dogs. Sam and Wendy too. All dogs are special. Happy Birthday, Nell!

- BCSnobExplorerNell gave us a scare. Sunday she didn’t want to go on her walk and didn’t want her night time treat. Sunday night she vomited bile twice and had bloody diarrhea. Monday morning she was too weak to stand up on her own, wouldn’t eat or drink, and was dehydrated. These were many of the same symptoms just before her Addisons diagnosis. She gets 1.25mg of prednisone everyday (dose and frequency as needed) so I doubled the dose in case it was her Addisons. The vet was in surgery when my wife called Monday morning and they had no routine appointments for 3 weeks. The Vet called back after surgeries; by then Nell was drinking and had eaten a few treats. Vet didn’t think it was her Addisons getting worse since it hasn’t been that long from her last dose of percorten. Her prescribe something for her nausea and had us give her 5mg prednisone Monday night and Tuesday morning to aid in a likely nerve issue in her back. By Monday evening she was eating but was still to weak to stand up on her own. Tuesday morning I was greeted at the Dutch door to the mudroom by the other dogs and Nell. She seems to be tired but essentially back to herself. Old dogs can go down hill so fast we’re always watching them closely for subtle changes that can turn bad.

Glad she made a turnaround - I think we've all walked in those moccasins. More than once I've greeted an elderly dog by saying "Hey - you're still alive?? Let's go have breakfast!" (Morbid humor disguising the fear that one morning they DON'T wake up - or worse yet, you know that you have to make that awful last trip to the vet) - BCSnobExplorerNell and I went out for a short walk last night; about half our normal distance at a stroll (Nell setting the pace). She looked good; she kept coming over to me for some lovin during the walk. :)
This morning she got her normal kibble. As I left for work she was looking at her bowl with disgust that it was kibble and not the special tasty food she was getting when she wasn’t eating well.
