Thanks for all your suggestions and support. My dog is about 85 lbs. 6 months ago when she got diabetes she was about 105 lbs. She is a black lab and worth all the effort to keep her around awhile longer. I used the short leash and the command of step today and she seemed to do well. We have stairs inside and outside. She fell down the inside stairs last night so from now on we will use the outside stairs, don't understand the difference but she seemed more confident today.
