Can hard of hearingn dogs hear a whistle?

I don't know if anyone would really have an answer to this but maybe some experience or theory. Our Buddy is getting up in years and he's getting hard of hearing. He can still hear but I have to go get him if he's in another room. My hearing isn't the greatest either and I can hear some speech and other is garbled depending on tone. My question, if dogs can hear "dog" whistles that humans can't, could they maybe hear the whistles easier than voice?
Thanks for any opinions.

  • Pick one up at most any sporting goods store $4--$10 and give it a try

I had a 'deaf' Dalmatian. Stomping my feet got his attention inside the house.

Outside..had to get eye contact. Tough to do at a dead run :B
  • I'll have to check with our son (a veterinarian) to confirm this for dogs, but, in humans, hearing loss happens in the high frequencies first (which is why you have trouble with "S" and other consonants). If the pitch of the whistle is too high, your dog will not be able to hear it as well as your lower-pitched voice. I'll send hem a text...
