Can my dog ride in the back of my pickup truck?

Hard to tell a cattle dog that has been kicked by horses and cows that riding in a PU bed, a tractor or swather is dangerous. Requiring them to be tethered in some states was a law that was obviously made by politicians trying to apease city folks.
