Can you change a dog's name?

So far I've tried renaming Calvin's name to Tig. However, every time I call him. He looks at me like who's Tig, then starts looking around for Tig, thinking he's got a dog to play with. ... :R

So, has anyone had success in changing your dog's name?

  • Well, I didn't exactly "change it" - but one day when I yelled "***HOLE!" at a stupid driver (windows rolled up), Jack immediately jumped into the front seat and looked at me like "You called?!"

Yes, but then you'd have to get him a new social security card. :W Seriously, why at this late date? I think you need to go find a brindle pup and name him Tig. Calvin (or Cal?) is telling you he wants a friend.
  • Yes, I got a dog at about 2 years of age with the name Aspen which I successfully changed to Blue.
  • My dog came to us at age seven, and she was named "Chloe"...which in my mind didn't seem to suit her plucky self at all. She's a rat terrier with perfectly shaped brown "goggles" framing her eyes that remind me of those worn by a certain famous Aviatrix, so I renamed her "Amelia Airhead". :B

Shortened to "Millie" for everyday...took less than five treats to educate her to her new name!
  • I'd say you haven't got the right name yet.

When I discovered a puppy of mine really could climb up the wood walls of his pen, it didn't take long for me to think of the name of a very steep mountain. In three sayings of the word, Eiger, he knew he had become Eiger. I knew it was right and my tone told him so.
